  • Trump hails Saudi 'friendship' in meeting with bin Salman

The Senate voted 55-44 Tuesday to table a resolution to stop US military spending that supports Saudi Arabia's combing campaign in Yemen, making the timing for Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman's visit impeccable.

SAUDI Arabia's crown prince received an effusive welcome yesterday at the White House from United States President Donald Trump, who hailed a "great friendship" with the kingdom but made no public mention of the sticking points in the burgeoning alliance.

"Jobs! Who cares about the Yemeni civilians being killed by the Saudis with US weapons", Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch, wrote in response to Trump's enthusiastic run-down of American arms sales to the repressive kingdom. "Saudi Arabia is buying a lot of this equipment, and a lot of people are at work making this equipment".

Trump said he is looking forward to welcoming King Salman to Washington.

We will fight this unconstitutional ban and ensure that women can access legal and safe abortion care, no matter their zip code. Tate Reeves echoed that sentiment Monday, tweeting "It's a great day in Mississippi" along with a picture of the signing.

Both Trump and Saudi Arabia have been critical of the Iran denuclearization deal signed between Iran and other world powers in 2015.

In addition to meeting with President Trump on Tuesday, MBS will also meet with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), and Mike Pompeo, selected by Trump as the next Secretary of State. His ambitious bid to remake Saudi Arabia received a ringing endorsement Tuesday from President Donald Trump as the future leader opened a marathon tour of the United States.

The news was accompanied by expressions of concern about a US law that exposes Saudi Arabia to legal action over the 9/11 attacks, which Riyadh would dearly like to see removed.

"Iran has not been treating that part of the world, or the world itself, appropriately. The deal is coming up in one month and we'll see what happens". Lotta bad things are happening in Iran.

While in Washington, the crown prince is holding separate meetings with a long roster of influential US officials, including the secretaries of defense, treasury and commerce, the Central Intelligence Agency director and congressional leaders from both parties. It was the 32-year-old Crown Prince's first official visit to the country as heir to the Saudi throne.

In December, Saudi Arabia was able to intercept an Iranian missile launched by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, preventing it from entering Riyadh, potentially causing many casualties.

Images of the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen prompted Trump previous year to issue a rare rebuke of Saudi policy, urging the kingdom to lift a blockade on the civil war-wracked country "immediately".

Trump was also expected to press his guest to end a standoff with Qatar, which had wrecked Gulf Cooperation Council unity and put the US president's plans for a US-Gulf summit at Camp David in doubt.

Putin headed for easy re-election in Russia's presidential race - 6 more years
Navalny and his supporters had called for an election boycott but the extent of its success could not immediately be gauged. But while elections are a serious matter, there were those who took the time to have fun while casting their vote.

The Saudis are working aggressively to change perceptions.
