Skripal regretted being dual agent and wanted to come back home,

The move, expected as early as next week, comes after the European Union made a decision to recall its own ambassador to Moscow and EU leaders said they backed Britain's assertion that the "only plausible" explanation for the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal was the involvement of the Russian state.

The Kremlin has angrily rejected Britain's claims and Russian officials have offered numerous alternative explanations, including that London directed the attack itself or that Washington may have been involved.

Moscow insists it was not behind the attack and has accused Britain of fomenting anti-Russian hysteria.

A collective European Union decision to find Russian Federation "highly likely" to have carried out the nerve agent attack three weeks ago was only made to "help" British Prime Minister Theresa May "out of a hard situation", they added.

Several European Union countries say they plan to take measures against Russian Federation over the poisoning of a former spy in the English city of Salisbury, and some may follow the U.K.'s lead in expelling Moscow diplomats.

Germany's Markus Ederer, the EU's ambassador in Moscow, will be withdrawn for a month to begin with, Poland's PAP news agency has reported, citing sources in Brussels which it did not name.

Kabul Sakhi Shrine: 'Dozens Dead' In New Year Attack
Afghanistan's Shiite population has repeatedly been targeted by IS affiliates, who view the minority group as apostates of Islam. Earlier reports said the bomb was planted in a vehicle , but the city police later confirmed it was a suicide bomber.

German chancellor Angela Merkel was one of several leaders to express solidarity with the United Kingdom after meeting Mrs May and France's president Emmanuel Macron on the margins of the summit to discuss the incident. Merkel said further steps were "necessary" to respond to the attack. "It demands a reaction".

The Kremlin has voiced "regret" over the EU's decision to recall its envoy to Russian Federation.

But resistance to a firmer line with Moscow apparently came from Greece, whose prime minister Alexis Tsipras said: "We have to express solidarity to the British people for the Salisbury case, but we also need to be responsible on that issue". He said the Kremlin specifically regrets the "recall [of the envoy] for consultations".

At least 10 European Union members will kick out Russian officials in response, fuelling the diplomatic crisis between the Kremlin and western nations.

Russian Federation "unfortunately is not able to receive any information at all directly on the so-called Skripal case", Peskov said.

The bench the Skripals were sitting on when they were found unconscious on in Salisbury on 4 March has been removed by a team in protective suits, as the investigation continues.

A British judge said on March 22 that they may have suffered brain damage and the prospects for recovery were uncertain.

The chancellor pointed to Vienna's "traditionally good contacts" with Russian Federation and said his government will use them to press Moscow to help clarify the nerve agent attack.

Merkel said May had shared "certain findings" that left little doubt Moscow was behind the first offensive use of a nerve agent in Europe since World War II.

In response, Dmitri S. Peskov, the spokesman for the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin, said that he "did not know what the heads of the European Union states agreed with" when they offered their support to Britain, as Russia was not given any information.

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Ireland would conduct a security assessment of Russian diplomats with a view to possibly expelling those who are not legitimate.

"Yes, we will probably move in this direction", Babis said, adding he will consult with cabinet members on Monday. But divisions remain over how far to go, with Austria already ruling out expelling diplomats.
