  • Israel, US slam Abbas for calling American ambassador 'son of a dog'

Rabat- After three months of being held in custody, the 17-year-old face of Palestinian resistance in the occupied West Bank, Ahed Tamimi, has accepted a plea deal for eight months in prison along with almost United States dollars 1,500 fine, her lawyer Gaby Lasky, said.

Under the deal, offered by the military prosecution on Wednesday, Ahed Tamimi is expected to plead guilty to four charges, including assault, incitement and two counts of obstructing soldiers.

Israeli soldiers arrested al-Tamimi from her home near Ramallah last December.

Her lawyer, Gaby Lasky, said she agreed to the sentence as part of a plea deal with prosecutors that allowed her to avoid more serious charges that could have imprisoned her for years.

This should come as no surprise but within the same week as Ahed Tamimi was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment, Israeli soldier, Elor Azaria's 18 months sentence was reduced by 4 months and is set to be released on the 10th May.

Russian Federation election: Trump congratulates Putin over victory
Putin won a landslide re-election victory on Sunday, extending his rule over the world's largest country for another six years. The two leaders talked over the phone on Tuesday and discussed U.S. -Russia relations and denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.

Her trial opened on February 13 behind closed doors at the Israeli military court in the West Bank. She was tried behind closed doors because she was being tried as a minor.

The incident was caught on video and received global attention, with some applauding the teenager as a courageous symbol of Palestinian resistance against the occupying Israeli military and others criticizing her as an anti-Semitic terrorist. This comes after the Supreme court ruled that the Israeli police had no legal authority to withhold the bodies, Hassan Jabareen, founder and general director of legal centre Addalah, told Middle East Eye, "This law is looking to bypass the position of the court".

"The treatment of Palestinian children in Israeli military detention remains a human rights priority for the UK". Nour Tamimi, the teen's cousin who was arrested as well after appearing in the controversial video that led to Ahed's arrest, was sentenced to five months.

The ruling could have a chilling effect not just on journalists, but also on Palestinian activists who routinely record their encounters with Israeli troops, both to document abuses and to provide a measure of accountability.

Ahed's cousin, Nur, who is also seen in the video, was also later detained.

Judge temporarily blocks 15-week abortion ban
We will fight this unconstitutional ban and ensure that women can access legal and safe abortion care, no matter their zip code. Tate Reeves echoed that sentiment Monday, tweeting "It's a great day in Mississippi" along with a picture of the signing.

Israel disputes that its settlements are illegal and says their future should be determined in talks with the Palestinians, although the peace process has collapsed.

"Ahed will be home in a few months", Whitson added, "but Israel is putting this child behind bars for eight months for calling for protests and slapping a soldier, after threatening her with years in jail".

Ahed confronted the soldiers amid a demonstration in Nabi Saleh against US President Donald Trump's recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The images of Tamimi striking the soldier had also made an impact on Israelis, who debated whether the officer should have hit back.
