A U.S. Navy ship recently sailed close to a disputed Chinese island in the South China Sea.

In its own statement late Friday, China's defense ministry said two Chinese Navy ships "took immediate action to identify and verify the USA ship, and warned and dispelled it".

China termed the United States move a provocation. Nicole Schwegman, a U.S. Pacific Fleet spokeswoman, said in a statement.

In October 2017, the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Chafee also sailed close to the Paracels, provoking a stern reaction from the Chinese Defense Ministry.

The operation carried out by the USS Mustin will likely draw attention to its timing because it comes a day after the Trump administration proposed $60 billion in trade tariffs on China.

Russian Federation says over 105000 civilians have left Syria's Ghouta
Khodr noted that such deals are part of a military tactic that has been used by the Syrian government in the past seven years. The agreement will involve clearing a southern stretch of territory that includes the towns of Zamalka , Arbin and Ain Tarma.

Apart from being a critical global trade route, the South China Sea is estimated to hold around 11 billion barrels of oil and 190 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in proved and probable reserves, with conventional hydrocarbons mostly residing in undisputed territory, according to the EIA.

"The provocative behavior by the US side will only cause the Chinese military to further strengthen building up defense abilities in all areas".

China's navy and air force frequently carry out drills in the South China Sea, where the government has been building man-made islands and constructing airstrips and other facilities, unnerving the region.

In a separate statement, China's Foreign Ministry said the country would continue to take all necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and peace and stability in the South China Sea, where it said the situation was developing for the better with the hard work of China and Southeast Asian nations.

"The goal is to test and improve the training level of the troops and comprehensively improve the ability to win", state media said.

US Announces $1 Billion in Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia
Mattis spoke at the start of a Pentagon meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is on a three-week US visit. Mattis told reporters he was also going to bring up the need to reduce civilian casualties when meeting the prince.

The announcement came after Taiwan's Defense Ministry said Wednesday that it had dispatched jets and ships to shadow a Chinese aircraft carrier group that sailed through the Taiwan Strait in a southwesterly direction, apparently into the South China Sea. The US military put countering China and Russian Federation at the center of a new national defense strategy recently unveiled.

Beijing has denied claims of neighbouring countries like the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei over the waters to virtually claiming the entire South China Sea and set up a series of outposts to create what the experts define "fully functioning air and naval bases".

China's navy will carry out combat drills in the South China Sea, the military's official newspaper said on Friday, describing the move as part of regular annual exercises.

Earlier this year, Britain said one of its warships would pass through the South China Sea to assert freedom-of-navigation rights.
