The first commercial passengers to fly non-stop from Australia to Europe are scheduled to arrive at London Heathrow on Sunday 25 March. The history-making service pushed back in Perth just before 19:00 local time on Saturday evening (below).

Chief Executive Alan Joyce has called the new Perth-London service a "game-changing route". "Now we can do it in a single leap", Joyce said.

Simon Eastburn, Director of Airline Business Development at Heathrow said: "We are delighted to be supporting the very first direct air link between Europe and Australia, a true milestone moment, for a hugely popular route".

This is 24% further than the UK's existing longest route, operated by Garuda Indonesia between Heathrow and Jakarta (7,275 miles).

Long-distance travellers were treated to new features meant to reduce the problems associated with such a long flight. Qantas' CEO Alan Joyce says the airline has combatted this by putting "hands-down the most comfortable aircraft that Qantas has ever put in the sky".

They weren't stunned that they maintained a lead on Purdue despite a quiet night from Evans, one of the best guards in the nation. After halftime, Zach Smith was a key in helping Tech protect its lead with put-back buckets and strong finishes around the rim.

Joyce added: "The response to the flight has been incredible, both for the attention it's received since we announced it and the bookings we've seen coming in".

QF9 is operated by four pilots across the journey, with one or two pilots resting at any one time.

Turbulence-sensing technology smooths out the ride while various solutions reduce cabin noise.

Qantas is configuring its 787-9s in a "premium-heavy" configuration seating 236 passengers, with 42 seats in business class in a 1-2-1 configuration offering direct aisle access for every passenger, 28 in premium economy laid out 2-3-2 across and 166 in economy in a 3-3-3 layout with 32in seat pitch.

Earlier this year, Qantas launched its first ever non-stop flights from the United Kingdom to Perth.

Still Dancin': Azubuike leads Jayhawks to third straight Elite Eight appearance
Newman led KU in scoring for the fifth time in his last six games and was one of four Jayhawks to score in double-figures. Azubuike got into foul trouble late but it wasn't enough to stop him from completing a dominant game down low.

According to the statement, the flight is the third longest commercial flight now in operation and the world's longest Dreamliner flight.

The new Qantas service is part of the airline's plans to eventually connect Europe with airports on Australia's east coast.

To boost passenger comfort, Qantas said it has designed a menu that includes "poke bowls as well as home style comfort food" which "helps the body cope better with jetlag".

Could you believe that in 1947 the route between Australia and London took four days and the flight included seven stops?
