The original movie grossed $112 million total in China compared to its $102 million in North America, so Asia is once again driving the franchise.

Pacific Rim: Uprising won its opening weekend at the domestic box office despite lackluster overall numbers, but the film is performing far stronger in worldwide markets.

"Pacific Rim Uprising" debuts at #1 on the USA weekend box office chart.

Uprising, the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 blockbuster, grossed $122.5 million, including a solid $64 million in China - the market that served as the biggest home to the original film, and the main reason we got this sequel in the first place.

Universal and Legendary Pictures opened the sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising, co-written and directed by Steven S. DeKnight, into 3,708 theaters on Friday. Critics were mixed while audiences gave the film a so-so B CinemaScore. However, clinching the number one spot at the box office is not enough to consider Pacific Rim: Uprising a success.

The Pacific Rim Uprising Plot: The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Pacific Rim Uprising.

Black Panther dropped to second place after spending over a month as box office champion. The movie has become the highest-grossing superhero movie in the US, not adjusted for inflation.

Sherlock Gnomes opened in fourth place with $10.6 million.

The movie, from Universal, centers on "Star Wars" sensation John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, son of Idris Elba's character Stacker, who died to save the world in the first film. The superhero film has now made more than $690 million domestically.

Faith-based drama I Can Only Imagine followed up last weekend's overperformance with an exceptional hold, down just 19% to $13.8 million.

If you want to craft forts or buildings, gather resources, and battle to the death for a victory royale, we have you covered. According to Pornhub Insights , the game is least popular in Washington DC, Mississipi, Hawaii, Vermont and both Carolinas.

Disney's A Wrinkle in Time took another major plunge, down 50% and two places to sixth with $73.9 million grossed domestically going into spring break. The film's $631 million in domestic ticket sales has surpassed the $623 million of 2012's "The Avengers". It should end its domestic run at $85 million and will need more worldwide money to make back its $100 million budget. Tomb Raider has grossed $211 million globally so far, so it's not a complete disaster, but I wouldn't expect a sequel any time soon.

Love, Simon was down a decent 34% in its second weekend with $7.8 million. "Sherlock Gnomes", $10.6 million. 5.

Opening at #10 was young adult romance Midnight Sun, flopping with a mere $4.1 million.

Rounding out the weekend, Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs opened with US$1.5 million in limited release, with a screen average of over US$58 thousand in 27 theaters.
