Justice Department Watchdog: McCabe Misled Investigators

  • Former FBI Deputy Director Is Faulted in Scathing Inspector General Report

The DOJ's April report found that McCabe authorized a leak to a Wall Street Journal reporter about the contents of a telephone call in August 2016.

The Justice Department's office of the inspector general released a long-awaited report on Friday accusing former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe of "lack of candor" about his authorization of leaks to the media. The president went as far to say the two of them were the same person and calling the agency a "den of thieves and lowlifes".

The report, part of an inspector general examination of the FBI's handling of the Clinton investigations during the 2016 campaign, was sent to Congress on Friday - in the middle of a rush of media coverage of Comey's book detailing his actions during the investigation and conflicts with President Trump. McCabe was totally controlled by Comey - McCabe is Comey!

But the report actually takes Comey's side, saying McCabe misled his former boss. Then, McCabe led his then-FBI Director James Comey to believe that he "had not authorized the disclosure and did not know who did", the report read.

Andrew McCabe has always been under fire, specifically by Republicans who have voiced conflict-of-interest complaints over McCabe's ties to the Democratic Party.

Fierce Clashes Continue At Gaza-Israel Border Fence
Israeli troops have shot dead at least 30 Palestinians and wounded hundreds since the protests began, drawing worldwide criticism. But Israel says the militant group Hamas, which dominates Gaza, is orchestrating the demonstrations in order to launch attacks.

Trump had accused McCabe of bias, and the president's critics said McCabe was sacked from the FBI as part of a Republican effort to discredit a federal investigation into purported ties between Russian Federation and the Trump presidential campaign.

Democrats have emphasized that McCabe's dismissal has nothing to do with the special counsel's investigation into Trump and Russian Federation, while raising questions about the firing.

On Friday, the inspector general's report that Trump declined to reference became public.

However, the inspector general also found that McCabe didn't inform then-FBI Director James Comey that he had authorized disclosure of the information to a Wall Street Journal reporter.

Bromwich said some of the claims about McCabe's lack of candor "are more properly understood as the result of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and honest failures of recollection based on the swirl of events around him, statements which he subsequently corrected".

Poland were the biggest losers amongst the top 10 ranked teams as they lost four places to drop down to 10th. It would involve new global tournaments and a sport less dominated by Europe.

He chose to exercise that authority in October 2016, during one of the most turbulent periods in the history of the Bureau, with the knowledge of Director Comey and other senior members of FBI management.

A lawyer for Mr McCabe, Michael Bromwich, said he is considering filing a defamation lawsuit against Mr Trump and his "colleagues".

"The OIG found that then-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe lacked candor, including under oath, on multiple occasions in connection with describing his role in connection with a disclosure to the WSJ, and that this conduct violated FBI Offense Codes 2.5 and 2.6", the audit concluded.

The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee responded to the release of the report by attacking Republicans. During that interview, McCabe again said he didn't authorize the disclosure and didn't know who did.

McCabe contacted the NY official again on November 4 following the publication of another Wall Street Journal article that referred to the information McCabe had leaked.
