Lawmakers from across the political spectrum led tributes to former first lady Barbara Bush Sunday after a spokesman announced the 92-year-old was in "failing health".

She has been married to former president George H.W. Bush for 73 years - since 1945 - and the couple has six children.

It said that Mrs Bush, after consulting with relatives and doctors, had made a decision to "focus on comfort care" at the family home in Houston.

McGrath added: "She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving".

With Ricciardo now untouchable, Raikkonen began to pressure Bottas for second, but the younger Finn held on. He launched one of his trademark attacks from way back, to dive down the inside of Hamilton at the hairpin.

Shortly after they were married, the two moved to first to Odessa and later to Midland, where George began his career as an oilman. HISTORY Barbara Bush is the second woman in US history to be both a wife and mother of a USA president.

"I am still old and still in love with the man I married 72 years ago", she wrote in a Spring 2018 alumnae magazine for Smith College, where she received an honorary degree in 1989 after dropping out in the 1940s to marry Bush.

ET obtained a statement from the Bush family on Sunday, which was later also posted on Twitter, after she had been hospitalized several times in recent months.

Former U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, now ambassador to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, tweeted that Bush is "one of America's most loved women", and that "I join thousands in hoping she is comfortable and knows how loved she is throughout the world!"

Many people offered prayers and tributes for and to Barbara Bush as word spread about her health issues.

"I have had great medical care and more operations than you would believe", she told the magazine. "I'm not sure God will recognize me; I have so many new body parts!" Bush would travel the world representing the US before turning their sights to The White House, first as the Vice President and Second Lady during the Ronald Reagan administration, then the 1988 Presidential election.

Barbara Pierce Bush was born in Rye, New York. She later said dyed hair didn't look good on her, the Associated Press reported, and credited the color to the public's perception of her as "everybody's grandmother".
