The chief executive of Starbucks today called for "unconscious bias" training for store managers and unequivocally apologised for what he called "reprehensible" circumstances that led to the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store. On Monday morning, the protesters entered the store and chanted, "Starbucks Coffee is anti-black".

The manager called the police, who arrested the men after they refused to leave.

Video showing the arrest of the two men went viral on Thursday after the store's manager called police because the pair were sitting in the store without ordering anything.

"We stand not only with the two black men who were wrongfully detained but also with the countless people of color whose very existence continues to be daily undervalued and overpoliced - often without the benefit of a running camera", the office said in a statement Monday. Flying Allegiant? Scathing '60 Minutes' report cites maintenance issues
The five, who were interviewed on camera, detailed experiences ranging from disappointment to anger to trauma. Allegiant told KY3 News it believes the 60 Minutes report is full of inaccuracies.

"When I saw the video, it sickened me because I began to think about my son, who's 23 years old and lives in Brooklyn", said Brewer.

He did not say whether the manager at the Philadelphia location would be fired. Reverend Mark Tyler, pastor at Mother Bethel AME church, told the Inquirer that the arrest of the two men "demonstrates that if you're black there's nobody that's safe".

Police Commissioner Richard Ross said his officers "reluctantly" arrested them.

Starbucks' racial problems Monday weren't confined to Philadelphia.

"This is ridiculous", a man in the video, who said he was there to meet the men, is heard saying.

Starbucks did not respond to repeated requests from BuzzFeed News about her status or if an internal review is indeed taking place.

Finding racism, inadvertent or otherwise, in a self-described socially responsible company, speaks to how deeply ingrained hate, fear, and discrimination are, and to just how little we, as a country, have evolved from our racist, slaveholding past.

"We are here to tell you that that is not acceptable and ma'am since you want to know so much, what you are going to do is change those policies, what you are going to do is stop calling the police, because we are committed to being here are much as possible", one activist said. "And that is what we're focused on". Johnson will meet with Mayor Kenney some time during the day to do damage control. He said the company wanted to "express our deepest apologies to the two men who were arrested with a goal of doing whatever we can to make things right". "We will hit them where it hurts and that's in their pockets", Abdul-Ali Muhammad of the Black and Brown Workers Cooperative said.

"They were wrong, and for that, I personally apologize to the gentlemen that visited our store". Mial, 53, said she was "devastated" by the arrests and urged the small crowd not to the "choose the wrong enemy".

That did little to quell the outcry from groups such as the Anti-Defamation League, which urged training for the Starbucks staffers, and the ACLU of Pennsylvania, which demanded that police cease racial profiling. However, they called the situation "unfortunate" and hinted that it might have gone differently had the men not have been black.
