  • India Majlis-e Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi addressing the media in Hyderabad last year. Owaisi has claimed that many witnesses in the Mecca Masjid blast case turned hostile after 2014 when the BJP came to power

NIA's Hyderabad court's judge Ravinder Reddy resigned on Monday after few couple hours of the verdict.

Justice Reddy, who is also Telangana Judges Association President, submitted his resignation letter to the Acting Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court Justice Ramesh Ranganathan. The court in Hyderabad's Nampally cited lack of evidence as the reason behind the acquittal. These include Devendra Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Aseemanand alias Naba Kumar Sarkar, Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar alias Bharat Bhai and Rajendra Chowdhary.

The way the Mecca Masjid case has panned out will boost the cause of cynics who doubt that a criminal justice delivery system exists under India's democracy. Investigation in both cases failed to establish conspiracy link between the accused. The other accused including Sandeep Dange, Ramchandra kalsangara and Amit Chouhan are on run while Sunil Joshi was murdered. The case was first probed by the Andhra Pradesh police and later handed over to the CBI before the NIA took over in 2011. Five others were killed as police opened fire to quell the rioting mob after the blast. Investigation against two others - Tejram Parmar and Amith Chowhan - is still on.

According to Harinath, the NIA court while acquitting the accused observed that the confession of Aseemanand recorded before a magistrate in Delhi was not fair.

"Judge who gave acquittal to all accused in Mecca Masjid Blast RESIGNS very intriguing and I am surprised with the Lordship decision", he wrote.

Salian claimed that she was tasked not to appear in court for the State of Maharashtra just before one of the regular hearings in the case in the Sessions Court. The five acquitted are associated with a right-wing organisation Abhinav Bharat which has been linked with similar cases like 2006, 2008 Malegaon bombing, 2007 Samjhauta Express and Ajmer Sharif Dargah blasts.

"The truth is for the sake of its appeasement politics, the Congress has been doing whatever it can to prove that there is something called saffron terror", said Patra demanding the Gandhi duo to publicly apologise for insulting Hindus. In a series of tweets, Owaisi said the NIA and Modi-led government did not even appeal against the bail given to the accused within 90 days.

Senior advocate and BJP Member of Legislative Council N Ramchander Rao, who initially represented the accused in the court, told TOI, "Now it is proved that UPA government tried to defame Sangh parivar by misusing the CBI for political gains".
