Medical examiners say Jennifer Riordan died of blunt impact trauma to her head, neck and torso.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it will be ordering inspections on jet engines like the one that blew up on a Southwest Airlines flight Tuesday.

The agency said it plans to require an ultrasonic inspection of fan blades when they reach a certain number of takeoffs and landings. It reads, in part, "We all feel we were simply doing our jobs".

Former Navy fighter pilot Tammie Jo Shults and the Southwest flight crew are being praised for their heroic actions in safely landing the plane and preventing further tragedy.

The Southwest CEO protested that it is too soon to say whether Tuesday's incident is related to any other engine failures.

"We want to very carefully understand what was the result of this problem, and as I mentioned a few minutes ago, I'm very concerned about this particular event", he said at news conference at the Philadelphia airport.

Inspection Of Deadly Chemical Weapons Attack In Syria Delayed By Gunfire
The site visit came hours after reports of more worldwide air strikes on Syrian military installations. Israel did not confirm or deny the allegations.

The FAA proposal would have given airlines six months to inspect the fan blades on engines that had flown more than 7,500 flights, and 18 months on more lightly used engines. The NTSB added that it continues to investigate the engine failure.

Debris from the CFM56-7B engine inlet damaged the aircraft's fuselage, wing and empennage. That breakdown led the engine manufacturer to recommend new inspections of fan blades on many Boeing 737s. Pieces of the plane were found in rural Pennsylvania by investigators who tracked them on radar. A spokeswoman said it was a visual inspection and oil service of the engines.

That proposed directive has not been finalized in the eight months since it was proposed, according to a report in the Seattle Times.

In both incidents, there were signs of metal fatigue at the location where the 24 titanium alloy fan blade detached.

The plane went from an altitude of 31,684 feet to about 10,000 feet in a little more than five minutes, according to data from Flightradar24.com. Several passengers unsuccessfully tried to pull the woman away from the window and back into the plane, and others stuffed clothes and jackets in an attempt to plug the hole, passenger Marty Martinez said.

Federal investigators were still trying to determine how a window came out of the plane, killing the woman seated next to it who was wearing a seatbelt.

Southwest declined to name the pilot, though passengers confirmed Shults's name on social media, and Shults's mother-in-law told The Washington Post she was the pilot.

"Everyone on this flight I'm sure had thoughts that they weren't going to make it", Marianne said. During the incident, he logged on to the in-flight Wi-Fi to send messages to his family. "This man sitting next to his wife when he could have chosen to just stay with her and embrace her for what could be their last moments together, instead he chose to get up and save Jennifer, someone he didn't even know".

The plane descended precipitously, Johnson said, but the pilot regained control and informed passengers the flight was headed to Philadelphia.

The airline expected to wrap up its inspection of the engines it was targeting in about 30 days.
