Amanda Nunes defends title with fifth round TKO at UFC 224

Between September 2015-November 2016, she won a rematch over Andrade, beat former champion Miesha Tate and former title challenger Bethe Correia, and sent Elizabeth Phillips packing from the UFC.

"He should have listened to her at that moment", Nunes said.

"Unfortunately, tonight (her corner man) failed".

Nunes dominated much of the action during the contest, but in round four, the champ landed some hard strikes and Pennington finished the round with what appeared to be a broken nose. If it not for the fact that Nunes and Pennington are pretty close friends, Pennington could have been in harm's way even more than she already was.

"She went to the hospital".

The Brazilian won three of her four bouts via knockout, and her reign as the UFC women's bantamweight champion is now the second longest, only behind Rousey who was champion for just under three years in the UFC. She went out on her shield.

"She was physically in the fight in round five but she wasn't mentally in the fight", a UFC commentator said. "This was the hardest thing I did in my career".

"I'm done, I want to be done", Pennington said.

"I know it hurts, I know it hurts".

"When it comes to finish this bout, something I've dreamed about for so long, I have to do it".

Huddersfield sealed a huge point against Manchester City at the weekend and you'd expect that to be just about enough for them. Laudrup's agent Bayram Tutumlu said: "Huw Jenkins [the chairman] asked me about Michael but Michael could not leave his club".

Nunes showcased her wrestling ability in the third round and laid into Pennington with knees from the clinch at the end of the fourth.

After the fight, the respect was clear between the pair, with Nunes bringing Tecia Torres to the cage and insisting the trio were going for a beer afterwards.

Nunes pinned Pennington back against the cage with a series of heavy kicks in the opening round, with that pattern continuing, as the American struggled to get the champion down on the mat. She has since beaten Ronda Rousey and Valentina Shevchenko before her most recent win over Pennington. She started to land her jab and follow-up right hand, but she was always forced to move forward as she threw, which seemed to have a negative effect on the power of the shots.

Despite it being a successful night for Nunes, whose win is arguably going to fuel further talk of a massive Brazilian super fight against Cris Cyborg, it's Pennington's cornermen that have stolen the headlines for all of the wrong reasons.
