LeBron James was the highest-ranking basketball player, grabbing sixth place with earnings of US$85.5m.

While McGregor came in at No. 4, his opponent, Floyd Mayweather, ended up at No. 1 overall with reported earnings at $285 million.

Brazilian footballer Neymar rounded out the top five.
