LeBron James: Cavs & Warriors Don't Want Invite To White House

  • The Warriors were more than happy to visit the White House in 2015 when Obama was in office

Cleveland star LeBron James and Golden State's Stephen Curry said Tuesday the NBA Finals champions will not be visiting US President Donald Trump in the White House no matter whether the Cavaliers or Warriors win the crown.

While Trump anxious about the Philadelphia Eagles not agreeing with him about National Football League kneeling protests and uninvited the Superbowl winning team to the White House, several invited white demonstrators were on the South Lawn making their own feelings known during. The President said on Monday: "The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team. But it's typical of him", James said. "Winning [a championship] is way bigger than getting invited to the White House, especially with him in there".

When Golden State's Steph Curry was asked about Trump's actions, his response was simple: "I agree" with James, Curry said. "I think that's powerful, being in this situation".

Like the Eagles, the Warriors were also "uninvited" from visiting the White House in celebration of their 2016-17 National Basketball Association title, but that was only after Steph Curry publicly stated that the team had no desire to take part in the tradition.

Come Tuesday, a bunch of so-called "Eagles fans" descended on the White House lawn for a replacement event that celebrated the military and the country.

Defensive end Chris Long, who boycotted last year's White House visit with the Patriots, said he planned to sit out this year as well.

Rather than disappoint the fans, Conway said, Trump chose to invite them to "celebrate America".

Taking the podium next, Curry said, "I think I agree with 'Bron, I'm pretty sure the way we handled things previous year, we'll stay consistent with that". You know, instead of acknowledging that the kneeling national anthem protests are a political statement against police brutality targeted towards young people of color.

Not only has the home shirt sold out on the Nike website , but so has the away kit, the squad shirt, two jackets and some joggers. Arsenal's Alex Iwobi (front-right) and Leicester's Wilfred Ndidi (third from right, back row) modelled the kits.

Trump, who has equated the protest with disrespect of flag and nation, said last September that any protesting "son of a bitch" should be fired and added recently "maybe you shouldn't be in the country".

Current Eagles players are placing their focus on matters of greater significance than publicly commenting on the anthem issue or the scrapped visit to the White House.

Typically, tickets to White House celebrations for sports champions are highly coveted commodities.

Jenkins issued a lengthy statement on Twitter on Tuesday after the White House disinvited the Eagles from an event originally meant to honor the Super Bowl champions after the Eagles reportedly made a decision to send only a small contingent of players.
