Suicide prevention is top of mind for many Oregonians in the wake of two high-profile celebrity deaths and the release of a federal report detailing a nationwide surge in suicide rates in the past few days.

Bourdain's is the latest celebrity death linked to suicide, following the passing this week of the internationally renowned designer Kate Spade.

In 2016 alone, nearly 45,000 Americans aged 10 or older lost their lives to suicide.

The report called for every society sector - government, public health, healthcare, employers, education, media and community organizations - to cooperate in addressing the factors related to suicide.
