President Donald Trump has tweeted that he now doesn't endorse the G-7 joint statement after what he calls Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's "false statements" at a closing news conference.

Europe will implement counter-measures against US tariffs on steel and aluminium just like Canada, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Sunday, voicing regret about President Donald Trump's abrupt decision to withdraw support for a G7 communique.

"I have made it very clear to the president that it is not something we relish doing, but it is something that we absolutely will do because Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said.

Trump also tweeted that United States tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, including from Canada, were in response to Canada's tariffs on American dairy products.

Disagreement over the sunset clause was the deal breaker that scuttled a possible meeting between Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Washington late last month in an attempt to bring the NAFTA talks to a conclusion.

Europe will not let Trump do "whatever he pleases", the German chancellor said, adding that "we will not allow ourselves to be deceived again and again".

The French president's office said in a statement: "International co-operation can not be dictated by fits of anger and throwaway remarks".

Trump's fellow G7 leaders watched him as he slowly made his way to his seat, which was across from Trudeau and next to International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde.

Exiting a world summit with characteristic bravado, President Donald Trump delivered a stark warning Saturday to America's trading partners not to counter his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

Following the breakfast, Trump delivered remarks to reporters, and held an impromptu press conference in which he doubled down on his calls for Russian Federation to be readmitted to the G-7, slammed Obama for "allowing" the country to annex Crimea, trashed a CNN reporter for asking a question, and predicted he will be able to figure out Kim Jong Un in "less than a minute". I think it would be good for the world.

Mr Trudeau said he had reiterated to Mr Trump, who left the G7 meeting before it ended, that tariffs would harm industries and workers on both sides of the US-Canada border.

Trump pulled out of the Paris climate accord in June 2017, asserting that it was unfair to Americans. He says "we're not looking to play games".

The acrimonious fallout from the G7 began after Mr Trump watched Mr Trudeau's end-of-summit press conference.

Trump infuriated his G7 allies recently by slapping them with the hefty tariffs on steel and aluminum - a move that prompted Canada and the European Union to threaten duties of their own. The EU also won't be "taken for a ride" in its trade conflict with the United States, she said.

The other G7 leaders will meet without him for the rest of the day, discussing climate change and global development. While Russia is an important interlocutor when it comes to security questions in Europe and the Middle East, there's no justification for it to join the forum, the chancellor said, adding she "wasn't convinced" by Trump's arguments.

Sharapova has won 11 of her last 13 matches on clay court. "I've pretty much had every (other) injury in the book". The 23-time Grand Slam victor said the result of an MRI scan will determine her participation at Wimbledon.

He insisted, like Trump himself has done many times, that Canada has enormous tariffs itself - especially on certain dairy and food products.
