  • Since 2007 Al-Shabaab an Al Qaeda linked group has been fighting to overthrow the internationally backed government in Somalia

The US military says its forces operate on an "advise and assist" mission with the Somali National Army.

Still, the US has made several changes in the way its forces have been operating in Africa, the result of an investigation into an October 2017 ambush of USA special operations forces in Niger that left four Americans and four Nigeriens dead.

Three U.S. service members and the wounded partner force service member were medically evacuated to receive additional treatment, officials said.

Al-Shabab quickly claimed responsibility for the attack on Telegram via its Shahada News Agency.

Palestinians opposed the sold-out game, who claim the eastern part of the city as the capital of their future state. He had called on Arabs to burn Lionel Messi pictures and Messi T-shirts if he played the match .

The assault was on the same base where a US soldier was killed in an attack late on Friday.

The death of the USA soldier in Somalia was the second in the last two years.

The US military's Africa Command said in a statement on Friday that the attack occurred in Jubaland, where a large force comprising about 800 Somali, Kenyan and US troops were conducting an operation against al-Shabab fighters.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of our serviceman who was killed and his fellow servicemen who were wounded in [Somolia]".

The letter did not explicitly describe the possibility of Mr Trump pardoning himself. He is also looking into whether Trump tried to obstruct the investigation.

Another U.S. servicemember in Somalia was killed in May 2017 during an operation about 40 miles west of Mogadishu.

A U.S. Africa Command statement said the four were in the care of the U.S. Embassy medical team in neighboring Kenya. The U.S. military said its personnel had provided advice, assistance and aerial surveillance during the mission.

In early 2017, President Trump approved expanded military operations against al-Shabab, leading to an increase in US military personnel to more than 500 and the launch of dozens of drone strikes.

The Trump administration has expanded military operations against extremists in Somalia, including al Shabaab, which was blamed for the truck bombing in Mogadishu in October that killed more than 500 people.

The population in the region had historically supported the government, and the Somali forces had prepared for this mission by coordinating heavily with and securing the support of local authorities ahead of time, officials said.
